food for thought

What does this word mean to you? Wikipedia says, ‘a group of people who share interests, views, purposes, patterns of behavior, or ethnicity’. Webster says, ‘a group held together by common interests, views, or purposes’.

Recently I have heard this word used a lot and not in a ‘good’ sense. A clique is a group of people with a common interest (Leah’s short version). As long as a group is including newcomers, a ‘clique’ is a good thing. As you see, the key here is including newcomers.  Not everyone has the same interest, therefore not everyone will ‘fit’ in all/every clique or better word group.  One clique we all want to fit in is “Christians”.

Enjoy life at it’s fullest and be positive!!!

June is a very busy month in the life of our church and individual families. We have vacations and extra activities crowding our schedules. We need to remember God doesn’t take a vacation. Sundays and Wednesdays we will be having services and God is always available for prayer time. Thank you God for not taking vacations, were would we be if HE did?

While we were out of town this weekend, we visited my parent’s church.  The main thing I got out of the pastor’s sermon was this.  Every church has their gossipers, knit pickers, and everyone in between.  We have to make sure we don’t put ourselves in the conversation and participate.  That is just as bad.  In their church they have a sign as you leave the sanctuary that says, “Now entering the mission field”.  The pastor made the comment he would like to put up a sign as you enter the sanctuary, “You are now entering a NO griping and whining zone”.  (They don’t speak out at their church so I had to bite my tongue, because I wanted to say, “Amen”)   I wondered if Bro. T  would let me put that sign up in our foyer.   Probably not.  But it is something to think about.  Why are you at church?  Are you there to worship God?  Are you there to let God speak to you? Or are you there to be seen,  see who is there, or do you have your own agenda?  Make sure your heart is in the right place.

Our 2007-2008 school year is here.  We need to make sure we pray not only for our children, grandchildren, etc. but also for the faculity, staff, and board members.  These people teach our children and probably see our children more than we do during the school year.  Let’s pray that God will shine through all of them.
