SPORTS AND RECREATIONAL MINISTRY

Upward Basketball: 

Spring Bayou has been involved with Upward Sports for over 15 years. Though there are many sports that Upward promotes, we provide Cheerleading and Basketball. Sign-ups for both of these sports beings in October, teams are created and begin practice in December, and games are every Saturday in January & February. Expense to each family is a nominal cost, however, scholarships are available for those who need them and discounts for families with multiple children. Upward emphasizes the reaching children and families with the Gospel of Jesus, the enhancement of a child’s self-esteem, gives an athletic/aerobic challenge, teaches them the rules to the game within a proper competitive atmosphere. 

Centershot: 

Also, Spring Bayou has been involved in Centershot for the last several years. Centershot Ministries is a non-denominational outreach program that shares the Gospel of Jesus using the life-skills of Archery. Centershot is available during the months of March and September of each year. There is a small nominal fee to take part. The churches Upward House (gym) becomes a fully equipped archery range. All archery equipment (bows, arrows, string bows, targets, etc.) are all provided for the student at no extra charge. Students are taught 2 major things the proper steps of competitive archery using the same skills taught by NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) along with respect and safety of their equipment. Also they are given an opportunity to participate in a Bible lesson. 

Adult Volleyball: 

Volleyball is a fun sport for all of our church family to participate in. We have competed in Muddin’ for Missions Volleyball Tournament at Bethlehem Baptist in Cunningham, and R.O.C. Volleyball at FBC LaCenter. No major athletic skills are needed, just a willingness to have fun, fellowship, pray, and love one another.
