The Vision of spring bayou
Being on mission is the vision of the ministry of Spring Bayou. We do not “do” mission work. We are a church of missionaries called into the mission of God. The Bible explains that in the last words Jesus shared His disciples before leaving earth.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Mathew 28: 19-20, (NASB)
We simplify this in 3 phrases:
We “Gather”, We “Grow”, We “Go.”
We “Gather” means we come together in a high impact worship service. The music and the message is filled with the energy of the Holy Spirit who gives us the freedom to outwardly express the joy of Christ and to bring our hearts in submission to Him. Every service should be a “revival” to prepare us for the coming week. By seeking God in every service, sin is revealed, repented, and released by the Blood of Christ. We leave filled with the fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit, empty of self and our desires, and ready to face the world.
We “Grow” means that we are weekly challenged with a message from God’s Word. We grow not by just seeing His message as “deep”, but by seeing His message as clear and understandable. We also want to leave changed. If we are challenged by the Word, but not changed by the Word, we remain immature. The challenge should give us a change in heart, attitude, vision, and task. The change equips us with Holy Spirit power to face our enemy and give us understanding of the mission of God.
We “Go” means we leave this place to fulfill the work of God. As we go, we evangelize, or live and proclaim the Gospel in word and deed. In our intimate walk with Christ, our desire is not only to share the Gospel verbally, but to live so that others see the difference the Gospel has made in us. To those who will listen, we teach the Word. Teaching His Word allows us to counsel those in need of spiritual help, comfort those who are broken, and show compassion, love, and truth through that message.
As we “Go”, we are given opportunities to reach out and share the Gospel wherever we go. All mission and activity groups at Spring Bayou must be actively sharing the Gospel of Jesus. Our “going” is realized both as individuals and as a collective body to be the arms, hands, and feet of Christ.
Here are just some of the ways that we reach out in our community and the world as a church.
